“Our era’s most important book on propaganda... Reading Mind Over Media should convince you that it’s not too late to take back control—not just of the media but also of our own thought processes.”

-Douglas Rushkoff, author of several bestsellers including Present Shock

“Mind Over Media is essential reading, now that we and our children are immersed in a new world of social media, viral memes, and computational propaganda... Media literacy is now a vital tool for the defense of democracy.”

-Howard Rheingold, author of Net Smart, former Stanford Lecturer on Social Media Literacies

“Mind Over Media is the best resource for educators at all levels who want to help students become responsible critics, users—and creators—of propaganda in all its forms.”

–Peter Levine, Ph.D., Professor of Citizenship & Public Affairs, Tisch College of Civic Life, Tufts University

“In Mind Over Media, Hobbs provides us with the most comprehensive take on the ecosystem of propaganda yet. This is not only a book for educators, but for all who are interested in better understanding how our digital culture is influencing society today.”

–Paul Mihailidis, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Civic Media and Journalism, Graduate Program Director, Media Design, Emerson College

A critically important factor in accounting for the extreme political, social, and culture polarization of the American public today is that digital media in the form of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and 'information/news' web sites (especially on the far right and left of our political spectrum) informs more American citizens than traditional radio, television, newspaper, and magazine formats. This makes "Mind Over Media: Propaganda Education for a Digital Age" an important and essential addition to community, college, and library Political Science in a Digital Age collections and supplemental curriculum studies lists.

It should be noted for students, academia, political activists, governmental policy makers, digital media corporate executives, and non-specialist general readers with an interest in the subject that "Mind Over Media: Propaganda Education for a Digital Age" is also readily available in a digital book format (Kindle, $16.17).

-Midwest Book Reviews

Just like other books by Renee Hobbs, this book is theoretically deep while practical and easily applicable. Her books are very kind to readers - with an in-depth explanation of the concept and ideas, thoroughly explained examples, and step-by-step explanations of in-class activities.  Of course, this book is not an exception. The book is full of great ideas and instructional practices of propaganda education. The book also inspired me with different teaching practices and activities. Highly recommend this book to educators and anyone who believes that we all need to be more critical and informed.

Dutch-Speaking Readers Respond

FROM School Librarian Roeland Smeets: "Hobbs pleads that the student should also be given the chance to choose a subject that fascinates him or her and do a complete research. The consequence of such an approach is that the young person (under supervision) goes through the stages of a search for information and will generally be motivated to bring that search to a successful conclusion.
